Abu Dhabi: Etihad
Rail has reached a major milestone in its logistics operations by completing
the first-ever transport of finished passenger vehicles for an automotive
dealership in the UAE. The project was carried out in partnership with Al Masaood
Automobiles, the authorized distributor for Nissan, INFINITI, and Renault in
Abu Dhabi and the surrounding regions.
The shipment,
consisting of Nissan passenger vehicles, was transported from ports on the
eastern coast of Fujairah to the dry port at the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi
(ICAD). This development marks a
significant shift for Etihad Rail Freight as it expands its services beyond
bulk commodities such as oil, gas, and raw materials, into high-value,
diversified cargo.
By integrating
rail into its supply chain, Al Masaood Automobiles aims to improve delivery
efficiency and predictability, ensuring vehicles reach their final destination
more reliably.
The shift to rail also offers a more sustainable logistics
alternative, as it significantly reduces carbon emissions compared to
traditional road transport. This initiative aligns with the
UAE’s broader decarbonization goals and its Net Zero by 2050 Strategic
Initiative.
Omar Alsebeyi, CEO of Etihad Rail Freight, highlighted that the national rail network was designed to offer scalable and reliable solutions that strengthen the country's logistics resilience. Irfan Tansel, CEO of Al Masaood Automobiles, expressed pride in being the first dealer to utilize the network, emphasizing the value of combining national infrastructure with private sector capabilities to drive long-term progress.
