Doha,
Qatar: Marking World Book and Copyright Day, the Indian Community Benevolent
Forum (ICBF) donated more than 100 books to a jail library, reaffirming its
commitment to learning, reflection, and rehabilitation among inmates.

ICBF President Shanavas Bava said the initiative is part of the forum’s continued dedication to serving the expatriate Indian community in Qatar. The collection includes books in various Indian regional languages, offering comfort and familiarity to inmates longing for a connection to their roots. He noted that reading in one’s mother tongue goes beyond knowledge - it fosters healing, hope, and a sense of belonging.
The donated books from the ICBF Library aim to serve as meaningful companions, giving inmates an opportunity to learn, grow, and find peace through reading. Though a small gesture, the initiative represents a powerful step toward nurturing minds and uplifting spirits - reminding that books can open not just pages, but hearts and new beginnings.
ICBF
officials, in coordination with Indian Embassy representatives, conduct regular
weekly visits to support Indian prisoners, assist with basic needs, and help
them stay connected with their families. The book donation drive was
coordinated by Neelambari S, with support from various ICBF-associated
organizations that regularly contribute to the ICBF Library.
