Dublin: A man was taken
into custody on Saturday after breaching security at Ireland's Shannon Airport
and damaging a parked US military transport plane with an axe. The incident led
to a 30-minute suspension of all airport operations before armed police intervened.
The aircraft, a C-130
Hercules, had arrived from Kansas via Canada on Friday. According to
authorities, the suspect scaled the airport’s perimeter fence to access the
restricted area, where he struck the plane's fuselage and wing, causing
significant damage.
Irish police confirmed the suspect is a man in his 40s and noted that an investigation is currently underway. This marks the third time a US military aircraft has been targeted at Shannon Airport since May of last year.
