Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the U.S. Navy will immediately begin blockading the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions following the failure of recent talks with Iran.

He stated that American forces would stop all ships entering or leaving the strategic waterway and would also intercept any vessel in international waters that has paid a toll to Iran, calling such payments illegal.

The move comes amid rising geopolitical tensions in the region, with the vital oil shipping route at the center of the dispute, raising concerns over global trade and energy supplies.
