France kicked off their FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Senegal in Group I, powered by a brilliant second-half performance from Kylian Mbappé. After a goalless first half in which Senegal created the better chances, Les Bleus found their rhythm after the break and secured all three points.
Mbappé
opened the scoring in the 66th minute after being set up by Michael Olise.
Substitute Bradley Barcola doubled France's advantage late in the match,
putting Didier Deschamps' side firmly in control. Senegal refused to give up
and pulled a goal back through Ibrahim Mbaye in stoppage time.
However,
Mbappé had the final word, firing home a stunning long-range strike in the 96th
minute to seal the win. The Real Madrid star's brace took his World Cup tally
to 14 goals and made him France's all-time leading scorer with 58 international
goals.
