Doha: Old Doha Port has announced
that the third edition of its Fishing
Competition will be held from March 25 to 27, 2026,
featuring premium prizes exceeding
QR600,000, including luxury vehicles, making it the most
rewarding edition since the competition’s launch.
The
grand prize winner
will receive a Tank
500, while second place will be awarded a Tank 300 and third place a Haval H9, all
sponsored by Teyseer Motors.
In addition to the top prizes, cash rewards and in-kind prizes will be presented to the top 10 teams. The
announcement was made during an official press conference at Old Doha Port,
where a partnership agreement was signed between Old Doha Port and Teyseer
Motors, the exclusive sponsor of the first awards for this edition.
Held
alongside the second
edition of the Fishing Exhibition, the competition will see
participating teams set sail from Old Doha Port over three days to catch the largest kingfish (kan’ad)
in Qatar’s waters. Organized in collaboration with the Doha Marine Sports Club, the
event blends Qatar’s deep-rooted fishing heritage with a modern competitive
format, celebrating one of the country’s most prized regional catches.
Speaking at
the event, Eng. Mohammed Abdulla Al Mulla,
CEO of Old Doha Port, said the competition aims to support
fishermen while preserving a tradition central to Qatar’s identity.
Participants will spend full days at sea and submit a video documenting their
largest catch for initial verification, with live fish weighing and final
verification scheduled for March 28, 2026, followed by the awards ceremony during
the Fishing Exhibition. The competition is open to teams led by a Qatari captain (nukhatha),
with residents and GCC nationals eligible to participate as team members.
